Scarring around the vagina is very common. This can be caused by, for example, a child delivery where the vagina has been cut or torn. Sometimes the scar does not heal completely as you would like it to and you may suffer from this. We are happy to help you with this by treating you with a scar correction!
What is a scar correction?
The purpose of a scar correction is that the scar that you have is made “more beautiful” after the treatment. This can be done in a number of ways:
- The scar can be reduced
- The scar can be made smaller
- The scar can be moved, so it falls into a skin fold or wrinkle
A scar can never be completely removed, but a scar correction can help make it less noticeable. It is important to know that a scar can only be corrected when it is fully recovered.
Consultation scar correction
Before the scar correction can be carried out, we would like to see you for a consult with our cosmetic gynecologist: Joke Haartsen. During this interview you can indicate what bothers you, why you would like to have a scar correction and what your wishes are. Of course there is plenty of room to ask questions. Joke will give you information about the procedure and also give advice about the treatment that best suits your needs.
Generally a scar correction is a simple procedure that is performed under local anesthesia. This means that you will get a few small injections around the area where you will be treated. Approximately one hour after the procedure, the anesthetic will start to work out and the area around the scar will feel sensitive. If you have any discomfort you can take paracetamol to ease the pain. After the procedure it is important to be careful with the scar, for example, there should not be too much tension on the wound. Six months after the procedure, you are fully recovered from the procedure and the result is optimal.
