What is rhinoplasty?

Are you unhappy with your nose because of its shape or size? A rhinoplasty surgery (or nose job) can make your nose fit with the rest of your face.

The shape of the nose can be very decisive for the appearance of the face. Because the shape of the nose is so decisive, the demand for a rhinoplasty is common. Sometimes a nose tip correction or a correction of the nostril is sufficient.

How does a rhinoplasty work?

The procedure is performed under complete anesthesia. You will be anesthetized by an anesthetist. He or she will keep an eye on the entire operation.

There are two types of nose operations:

  • A closed nose job. The operation is carried out via the nostrils, so that you do not get visible scars.

  • An open nose job. A cut is made on the outside of the nasal septum. This method is used when the rhinoplasty is more complex in nature.

The doctor will indicate during the consultation which method will be used for your rhinoplasty. It is always worked as accurately as possible during the operation, so that the wound remains as small as possible. This means that the scar becomes as inconspicuous as possible.

The surgery itself takes two to three hours, the preparation for the surgery about half an hour. Restoring from the narcosis takes a few hours.

Note: the payment of your treatment must be paid no later than 4 weeks in advance.

When am I suitable for rhinoplasty?

There may be several reasons for considering a rhinoplasty. For cosmetic reasons, you can opt for a rhinoplasty. When the nose is crooked, crooked, too large, too wide or too small. You can also opt for this procedure for medical reasons. For example, if you have breathing problems. In addition, chronic constipation or chronic headaches can be corrected by a nose job due to a deviation in the nose.

What can I expect after a rhinoplasty surgery?

We expect you back at the clinic for a short check the day after your surgery. During your appointment, the doctor will check whether everything is going according to expectations. Then we expect you back 7 days after your surgery. During this check the nose cap and stitches are removed. Although many customers are disappointed, these are not unpleasant operations. We then start a control process three to six weeks after your surgery date and three, six and twelve months.

We recommend taking a week off from work or training in case of correction of the nose, although a second week with rest can be pleasant.

Do you smoke?

A supply of oxygen-rich blood is very important in order to have a wound healed as nicely, quickly and as well as possible. That is why we recommend that anyone who carries out an operation in our practice should not smoke before the operation. The nicotine contained in cigarettes narrows the blood vessels, reducing blood flow to the wound. In addition, the smoke of tobacco contains carbon monoxide which causes the oxygen in the blood to be displaced. Finally, smoking also reduces your condition and weakens the immune system. All these factors cause complications in wound healing to occur more often in smokers than in non-smokers. It is recommended to stop smoking at least four weeks before an operation and to keep it for up to two weeks after treatment.
